We've been slowing down this month due to the seasons first snow storm and very cold weather. I thought we had it bad in Toronto at -14C, but in the western part of Canada they getting some very extreme weather, as low as -40C to -50C! I've lived here all my life but I just cannot get use to these cold temperatures. And to think we have at least another 4 months of this...ugh.
Well, on a positive note, this does give me a chance to work on a few things I've thought about changing. First, the company website is going through a complete overhaul. It will incorporate the same information (less of some and more of others), but have a different feel to it. Secondly, I'll be bundling some services together to create mini packages and changing/adding some options to the existing packages. This should make it even easier for customers to pick and choose the services they desire. Thirdly, look out for a video very soon on the Eccosave Channel via Youtube. I finally got the video software installed so now it's just finding some time to put something together. The changes should happen sometime between January/February, leading into March when the weather hopefully begins to lighten up.
Were in the midst's of the business first winter. I'm not 100% sure how it will fair but were taking it day by day. Whatever happens this season, will prepare us for next so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens. Either way, we won't be shutting down. Winter is the proving ground for the waterless car wash and my goal is to prove it will work in Canadian weather conditions.

Here comes old man winter...
Well, it seems as if it's finally upon us, old man winter is here. It has gotten cold really quick and I think that's why I've been under the weather the past couple of weeks. I've also been able to prove a few theories true since my last blog.
First, I was outside washing vehicles in -4C weather conditions. That's cold, but the wash solution went on normally, and buffed to a shine as it always does. However, If it gets colder than that, I won't be out there, or any employee of mine. If were underground, no problem, but not outside.
Second, most of Toronto's mobile details have, or are in the process, of closing up shop. Not us, we're still open. Some may think we're crazy but we want to prove that our level of service can't be matched by other mobile detailers. Separating us from the competition completely is our goal.
At the moment, I'm working on redesigning the website, and putting a Youtube video up. Our Winter/Fall special is almost up (end of December) so I'd like to get the new site up and running by then. For awhile now I've been trying to think of a demo for the Youtube video...how about washing half of a vehicle in the snow? I don't think that's ever been done in Toronto. Another first by Eccosave Mobile Wash?

Waterless car wash sold in stores?
Well, another week has come and gone, weather was good, washed some cars, the usual. Were in the middle of November with temperatures still around the double digits. Amazing but for how long? You just know were going to get hit hard in January February. Not looking forward to it.
So a couple of days ago I had to get a oil change for the company vehicle. Took it to Walmart and decided to walk around a bit in the automotive section while it was getting done. There is a product I've been watching for a couple of months called Rejuvenate. It's waterless car wash, similar to what I use but of course, it not environmentally safe. There's always a ton of them on the shelves, at least 30 to 40 bottles. It comes with a microfiber towel in a clear box. Over the course of 4 months I've been waiting to see how many they sell and from my observations, none. I wonder why?
Well first of all, this method of car washing is new to the public. I don't think selling it on shelves in a store will work, at least not at the beginning. You need to run demonstrations, and lots of them. This is what they should have done. It's simple, but effective. I would book 1 whole week of demos outside in the parking lot, doing a couple each day while promoting the product. I guarantee they would have sold some that way. Explaining how a waterless car wash works sounds crazy enough, but just putting it in a box and trying to sell it that way is even dumber. I believe they have an infomercial. You know, the ones that run at 4 in the morning while most of us are sleeping.... Will Eccosave be selling it's own waterless wash? That's to be seen.
As for Rejuvenate, it's no longer on the shelves in Walmart. Hmmm...like I didn't see that coming.

What a week!
So if you haven't figured out already who the waterless blogger is then I'll give you a hint, he owns the company, shhhhh. So I think last week was the best week ever for the business. I did over 25 cars in 7 days! Only 4 were just exterior, the other 21 were inside out. Unbelievable, crazy...tired. The work just kept on coming and coming which was awesome. Plus the weather was great and this week the weather outlook looks the same. I don't think in the summer we got this long of a stretch of nice weather, and were in November. Go figure. But I'm complaining, I'll take this over the white stuff any day. At least all the work came from Mississauga. I'm still trying to find a way to break into Downtown Toronto....
You know, before I started this business I never really cared about the weather, not I'm obsessed with it! So what is Eccosave Mobile Wash up to this week...well more business of course but I'm also going to start promoting our Christmas gift certificates. That would be different, a waterless car wash gift certificate as a stocking suffer. Maybe Santa would like his sleigh to be washed...

Waterless car wash works!
I took some pictures of a car Eccosave Mobile Wash was doing this weekend. This was a Honda Accord that someone had just took through the car wash. The first pictures is off the hood before they touched it.

The second was done with the waterless car wash solution. The difference is like night and day. I was told by the owner of the car that it's a 2004 model. The car looked like it was just at a detailer, I swear it did.
So you pay $8 for having your car look like the first picture (which is what it cost now at the car wash), or $20 for it to look like the second. Plus I'm told the waterless wash repels water so that makes it even last longer. It's a no brainier, I don't mind paying the $20 if my entire car is going to look like that. If I did it every two weeks, that's only $40 a month, not bad.

Weather messed up?
I've never seen weather like what were having so far this year. Looked outside around noon today and it was sunny, grabbed a drink, went back to the window and it was pouring rain. Then 5 minutes later, it was sunny again. The weather sucks, end of story. At least this weekend it's supposed to be nice. That gives me an idea, since I want to learn more about this waterless car washing concept, I think I'll ask to follow around the Eccosave guys on their appointments. That would be cool, I could ask questions, maybe even record them while they detail cars....Hmmm, I'll have to cut this blog short, I need to get ready.

Does anybody care about their car?
Today while stopped at a stop light, up beside pulled this SUV completely covered in mud. It doesn’t make sense as it’s been raining for the past couple of days but anyways, it looked awful. Maybe the person doesn't have anytime, or they do and are just lazy, either or this brings me to my blog topic, does anybody really care about their car? Most people don’t, or they think they do but in reality don't. How can you tell? Easy, ever see a car with covered in dirt with the words “wash me”?
Some say they only use the car to go from point A to B. That’s fine, I have no problems with that, but if your car looks like crap all the time going from point A to B, then that's a problem, your problem. Did you know that most people are judged by type of car they have and it’s appearance? If you’re a guy reading this, would you ever go on a first date with your car looking like crap? No cause if you do, you know it’s the last time you'll ever see her, she's going to tell the world too, and forget about getting to second base, ever. And ladies, you sure you want people to see the 350 pairs of shoes and bags on the front and back seat?
I’ve heard some horror stories from detailers that are friends of mine. For example, a friend was giving a vehicle to detail that had not been cleaned in the last 4 or 5 years. wait, your telling me that the person never once cleaned out the inside of their car since 2004? Are you kidding me? What the hell man, are you trying to breed a new type of species in your car? He was taking out stuff like maggots, ants, spider colonies, mold, god that’s nasty. I don't think I would come back for my car. Just burn at that point. Come on people, you’ve got to do better than that. If you don’t want to do it, get someone else to do it for you but at least a couple times a year, get your car cleaned professionally, it’s that simple. Tons of bacteria and germs can hide in our cars. The door handles, steering wheel, seats and seat belts, cup holders. I give a lot of respect to those detailers, a ton.
Think about this next time you’re in your car, a friend’s car, or a co-worker.

Eccosave Mobile Wash, who are they?
Who is Eccosave Mobile Wash? Where did they come from? Why are they here? Should I care? For those who have never gone to their website, or visited their facebook fan page, or is following them on twitter (why haven't you been doing all three?) I'll make these simple and sweet, Eccosave Mobile Wash is a waterless car wash & detailing service in the GTA (greater Toronto area). A WATERLESS car wash? hmmmm, that's new. The company just opened up this year (Feb), new company on the block. Now, from my understanding the company didn't start off with the name "Eccosave" but something entirely different. I've been told that the original name is still in the works and will be part of a future expansion of the business. I guess we'll just have to wait an see what that's about.
But why the name Eccosave? You could say the word "ecco" has something to do with water (yes..that works), and following it up with the word "save" since the company saves water each time it washes a vehicle. Sounds good to me. But how do you wash a car with no water? Well I've seen these guys in action and it's pretty cool to watch, and very simple. They use a small, battery powered, very low pressure washer to spray this green looking liquid onto the car (amazingly, none of it drips to the ground) Then the solution is spread onto the car with a speciality towel, I'm told it's a microfiber towel. The towel seemed to pick the dirt right off the vehicle along with the solution, then using another microfiber towel, they buffed the remaining solution on the car, leaving a very bright shine. The car they were working looked really good. I had to take a closer look cause I wanted to see if there were any scratches left, no scratches! I thought they would be some but one look at the towels proved the dirt was really being lifted right off.
It took them no more than 15min to finish the vehicle, rims and tires included. The car was a brand new black Audi TT. Like I said, I thought for sure I would see some scratches (especially on a black surface you can see stuff like that from a mile away. Whoever has a black car knows exactly what I'm talking about) but I couldn't find even one and the reflection from the clouds and sun on the car was something else.
This is a really cool idea, no water dripping, a perfectly clean car, and all done while the owner was working. Then I started thinking, I always go to the car wash in the winter and I hate it. Why? Because my doors always freeze when driving away, the water left on the glass turns to ice, or the dirt and salt just isn't gone. But what I hate the most is the stupid long line up just waiting for the wash. I remember last year waiting for over 35min in line. 35min? You know what I could have done in 35min? Plus I couldn't even get out the line because you know you can't reverse with cars behind you. Not looking forward to that this year so I'm really going to have to give this guys a try.
I asked one of them how much, he told me $20 with their Fall/Winter special, and they come to me. You come to me? So I don't have to wait in a line up? My doors won't freeze? I'll have a clean windshield so I can actually see where I'm going? Yes sir, I gota try them. I wonder if they do interiors? The inside of my car is a disaster, I still have salt stains from 2 years ago on the mats and carpets. I'll give them a call, maybe speak with the owner. I've got to find out more about this "waterless washing".
Till next time, the Waterless Blogger is evaporating out.

The intros
Hello hello hello. Is it Fall, Spring, or Winter in the GTA right now? (For those not in Canada, GTA is another word for Toronto and its surrounding regions) Don't know..still trying to figure it out. The tree colours scream fall, the rain feels like spring. Well not this past spring, horribly weather this year but that’s another topic for later. Sooo, I've started this blog for a few reasons. The first is to give you some insight into our company Eccosave Mobile Wash. We are the first waterless car wash and detailing service in Toronto. Second, to open and expose your mind to the concept of waterless car washing. Thirdly, to inform you of a variety of green options available to you for cleaning and maintaining your vehicle, and finally, to get the company internet rating up. That's right; I want to dominate the Canadian waterless car washing web space.
There will be much more but this is just the beginning. Ill tell you what I'm not here to do, rant and rave about our company and how great it is (we both already know it's awesome!), if you want that info then visit the website (www.eccosave.com). I'm here to talk about the coming of the new automotive era, the future of car washing, where the waterless concept started, why some people are against the concept and what I think of them (get ready for that), the green movement that's sweeping our entire country, the companies who greenwash (you know who you are, evil evil people), and what steps we can take to help the environment.
I'll post as much as possible, anytime of the day. Tell your friends, family, an enemy, who cares who, put it as one of your favourites, then as a favourite in any computer you can get your hands on. You need to read this, and often.
